Teaching English

Filipino children begin learning English in grade one, so it's no surprise that most of the population can speak and understand the language. Volunteers are placed in a rural elementary school, one hour outside of Tacloban City, to assist the local teachers with their English classes as well as with other tasks. These volunteers are able to experience living in a rural village and will observe the true meaning of «community».

An alternative to teaching in the rural setting is to teach non-formal education classes in Tacloban, with young school drop-outs. Several of these youth and unemployed adults who are interested in learning certain school subjects, participate in these classes on a regular basis.

In addition to living a unique cultural immersion experience, you will learn and understand the true meaning of the word «community».
