Guatemala is a country with so much to offer: beautiful scenery, volcanoes, lakes, jungles, safe ancient villages lost in the highlands, Atlantic and Pacific coasts, archaeological sites ...
Once visited as an extension of a stay in Mexico, Guatemala has now become, rightly, a destination in itself. Not because it’s a small country that it has less to offer. Quite the contrary, the vast majority of people descended directly from the Mayas. The Indians, the vast majority of the population, have preserved their language, their customs, folklore and especially their colourful costumes.
Courses :
- Taught by private teachers, courses will be adapted to your level of Spanish.
Activities:
- Every afternoon, the school organize cultural activities.
- For an even more comprehensive learning experience, you could volunteer in a kindergarden, a hospital, and other various community organizations in Antigua.
- One hour of free internet access is offered per week.
- The school is located 5 minutes from the downtown area.
Food:
- The food is of good quality, however there is less variety than you will find in Canada.
- If required, vegetarian menus can be prepared.

New Program in Guatemala: Linguistic Immersion is Now Wheelchair Accessible |

HorizonCosmopolite is proud to announce that our program in Guatemala can now accommodate people with physical disabilities. Thanks to our Guatemalan partner, the school now has wheelchair accessible bathrooms. In terms of housing, one of the host families offers a private bathroom and bedroom which is wheelchair accessible. If need be, the bedroom is large enough for two beds. For the physically disabled who require more personalized support, there is also the option to hire a caregiver who would be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to assist with dressing, accessing washrooms, bathing and transportation. This service is available for an additional $25 US per day. Depending on the participant’s requirements, there will definitely be certain adjustments that will need to be made to the program. During summer 2011, HorizonCosmopolite was pleased to send Amélie to Guatemala and the placement was a success! In addition to taking part in Spanish language classes, Amélie participated in several activities including a visit to the Atitlan lake and climbing the Pacaya volcano.
